Last week a huge egg recall was issued after over 200 cases of intestinal disease caused by salmonella were reported during June and July. The eggs in question are from Hillandale Farms of Iowa and are sold under the following brand names: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms, Kemps, James Farms, Glenview, and Pacific Coast. You can view the original US FDA press release regarding the recall, but please keep in mind that since that was released last week, the recall has widened.
In my personal opinion (and I'm no expert) I think your best bet would be to either avoid eggs temporarily or at least avoid eggs from Iowa. One brand that is definitely not from Iowa is Eggland's Best. Check cartons in your supermarket for the source of other brands.

I like to stick to buying local eggs from free range chickens. With the way they treat the chickens it's no wonder there's a huge recall. It's payback.
